Having never been to an EDM show before I wasn’t sure what the hype and excitement that surrounded them was all about. Thousands of people flock to these performances and sell out stadiums for their favorite dj’s. After seeing Illenium and the the magic his music, energy and production creates, I get it know.
The light show alone is something to behold, but when you add in the animation and digital visuals that sync up with the bass and drum beats the whole room is transported to another universe. Keep in mind, I was of sound mind during this show.
I think the most surprising and impressive thing about the performance was that the music was being performed with live musicians adding to the produced tracks. Accompanied by a key boardist, and drummer Illenium created beats in real time with his two piece drum kit. Throughout the show special guests Dabin on guitar and female vocalist coming in on various songs.
Only 5 days removed from performing at a sold out Madison Square Garden in New York City it would have been understandable for the artists to seem less passionate or hyped but I never got that feeling. They all appeared to be having fun and enjoying the energy of the crowd at State Theatre.
This was more than just an EDM show where a dj stands behind a table, this was a spectacle with real people, making real music that transports those in attendance somewhere else far from their everyday lives.
